Sound familiar?
  • "The Stellwerktest is coming in spring and my child doesn’t know what to expect."
  • "In math, basics from Sek year 1 are missing. That will show in the result."
  • "My child is looking for an apprenticeship and asks whether the company will want to see the result."

The Stellwerktest checks what your child can do. That is why cramming does little. What helps is really understanding the material.

How I prepare for the Stellwerktest

The Stellwerktest is an online test that adapts: after each task the system picks the next one with adjusted difficulty. The result appears as a profile on a scale from 200 to 800 points. So I don’t start with test tricks, but with the material. Your child solves problems and explains out loud how they approach them. That shows me where a building block is missing, and that is exactly where we work. We go through the sample tasks from stellwerk.ch together. After every lesson you receive a lesson report.

The preparation is part of my tutoring for secondary school. The price is the same for every grade, and all prices are on the website. You can read more about the individual subjects on the pages about math tutoring, German tutoring and English tutoring.

  1. Get a free assessment

Pick grade and subject, leave your number. I call you, ten minutes, free.

  2. Trial lesson on your topic

What a lesson with me looks like

Online with me does not mean a learning video. We practise the topics of the Stellwerktest and go through every solution together.

  • We meet on Google Meet

Your child and I see and hear each other the whole lesson. A link is all you need, nothing to install.

  • I write along on the iPad

With Apple Pencil and Goodnotes I write and draw neatly. Your child sees every step clearly on the screen.

  • School material or my own

Send me the school material beforehand and I prepare for it. You do not have to: I have my own, and I create my own exercises for Gymi preparation and practice.

  • A report for you afterwards

The same day by email: what we did, where it still sticks, the homework and the next step.

What you need: a laptop or tablet with a camera and a stable internet connection.

After every lesson you know what your child learned

This is what you get by email after every lesson. No chasing, no guessing.

  • What the topic was, what went well, where it still sticks
  • The same day, by email, in English
  • You see exactly what you pay for

Tutoring session report

Student
Leon, 5th grade
Subject
German
Date
18 September 2026
Tutor

Today Leon and I worked on the worksheet on sentence parts from school, then did one of my own exercises. Leon was much more focused than last week and asked questions on his own.

What we did

First we revised subject and predicate. With the question test ("Who or what?") Leon found the subject almost every time. Then we practised moving sentence parts around to see what stays together. I marked the parts in colour on the iPad, which clearly helped him.

What went well

Subject and predicate are solid. At the end Leon explained his method to me himself and marked a short text of eight sentences almost without mistakes.

Where it still sticks

In longer sentences with several parts before the verb he gets unsure and guesses. That is normal at this point. We need one or two more lessons until it becomes automatic.

Homework

A sheet with ten sentences: mark subject and predicate, write down the moving test for three of them. About 15 minutes. I will send you the PDF today.

Next steps

Next week we consolidate this and start the accusative object ("Whom or what?"). If a test on sentence parts is coming up, send me the date and I will prepare the lesson for it.

Leon was motivated, participated well and took a clear step forward. Looking forward to next week.

What families say about Stellwerk test preparation

  • “Can you even practise for it?”

I thought the test simply measures what is there. Lara showed us that you can strengthen the basics beforehand. That is exactly what we did.

    Mother of a Sek student

    Stellwerktest, Sek year 2

  • “Employers look at the result”

Our daughter wants to do a commercial apprenticeship (KV). Lara practised German and math with her before the Stellwerk profile went into her application.

    Father of a Sek student

    Stellwerktest, Sek year 2

  • “Isn’t it too late already?”

We started a few weeks before the test. Lara picked the most important topics instead of trying to do everything at once.

    Mother of a Sek student

    Math, Sek year 2

  • “Math is his sticking point”

Percentages and equations were his weak spots. Lara worked through them with him one by one and recorded every lesson in her report.

    Father of a Sek student

    Math, Sek year 2

  • “I didn’t know where I stood”

Before the Stellwerk I had no idea what I was missing. After the first lesson with Lara I knew, and I could practise in a targeted way.

    Student, Sek A

    Stellwerktest, Sek year 2

  • “I had given up on English”

I had lost all motivation for English. Lara practised vocabulary and reading comprehension with me until it worked again.

Questions about the Stellwerktest

When is the Stellwerktest in the canton of Zurich?

In Sek year 2, roughly in spring. The school sets the exact date. In the canton of Zurich the test is compulsory for all students in Sek year 2. Afterwards there is a progress meeting with the class teacher, your child and you.

Which subjects does the Stellwerktest cover?

In Zurich, German and math are compulsory. Two further tests come from English, French, and science and technology (Natur und Technik). I prepare for math, German and English. I don’t offer French or science and technology.

Can you actually practise for the Stellwerk test?

The test adapts: after each task the system picks the next one with adjusted difficulty. Learning things by heart therefore does little. What helps is really knowing the material of lower secondary school. That is exactly what we work on. We also look at the public sample tasks so your child knows the format.

How long does the Stellwerktest take?

There is no fixed time limit. According to the publisher, most students need 60 to 90 minutes per test. It measures what your child can do, not how fast they are.

Do employers need the Stellwerk result for an apprenticeship application?

The Stellwerktest is a school tool for support and not an aptitude test for an apprenticeship (Lehrstelle). It can happen, though, that a company asks for the Stellwerk profile as part of the application. The profile can also be compared with the requirements of individual trades.

When should we start preparing?

That depends on how big the gaps are. Individual topics can be caught up in a few weeks, basics from Sek year 1 take more time. In the free assessment I tell you how I see the situation. The work is worth it after the test too: the result shows what your child can work on in Sek year 3.
